Ask God to Give us a Spirit of Expectation
"I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation." (Psalm
5:3b)
Father,
put into us a holy sense of expectancy, as we anticipate the unfolding of your plans for WUMC. Enable us to walk in
faith as we pray for Your kingdom to come and Your will to be done in and through us.
Ask God to Visit
us with His Presence and Power.
"...the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God...
'Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!'
Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, 'Teacher, rebuke your disciples!' I tell you;
he replied, 'if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out!'" (Luke 19:37-40).
Father, we welcome Jesus in our midst.
Manifest His presence in us and through us more fully than we've ever known. May our praise in the presence of Jesus
be exuberant, truly befitting the One who is King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
Ask God to Teach
us His ways
"At
dawn [Jesus] appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them."
(John8:2)
Father,
we want Jesus to instruct us in the ways of the kingdom of God. Give us an eagerness to hear His voice, that we might be transformed
by the power of His Word.
Ask God to purify Our hearts
"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and
he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash you hands, you sinners, and purify
you hearts, you double-minded." (Hebrews 13:4)
Father, cleanse our hearts. May we have a single-minded devotion toward
You and Your kingdom purposes.
Ask God to glorify himself through WUMC
"This is to my Father's glory
that you bear much fruit." (John 15:8)
Father, thank you that you can minister healing, help, and wholeness though Winterville
United Methodist church in the name of Jesus. May we bear much fruit among us, to the glory of Your Name.
Ask God to Empower Us for Obedience.
"I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you
your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put m spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be
careful to keep my laws." (Ezekiel 36:26-27)
Father, may we obey You from glad and thankful hearts. Forgive us for our lack of
obedience in loving You and loving our neighbors.
Ask God to Pour Out His Holy Spirit On
us
"Jesus
stood and said in a loud voice, 'If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the scripture
has said, streams of living water will flow from within him' By this he meant the spirit whom those who believed in him
were later to receive." (John 7:37-39)
Father, enable us to drink deeply of the living water Jesus gives, that a river of life
might flow fron within us. May we become open channels for the activity of Your Holy Spirit.
Ask God to Give us Victory over Evil
"...We do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are the
weapons of the world. One the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds." (2Corinthians
10:3-5)
Lord
God, Bring glory to Yourself through answered Prayer. Reveal overt signs of Your goodness and power through Christ in our
midst. May we praise You joyfully for Your might acts.
"[Jesus} asked them, 'Do you believe that I am able to do this?'
"Yes Lord,' they replied.
'According to your faith will it be
done to you.'" (Matthew 9:28b-29)
