Winterville UMC Participates in Project Linus.
Sonja Peterson, Coordinator

Project Linus, providing security through blankets, is a non-profit organization with a two-fold mission.

First, it is their mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”

Second, it is their mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.

At the leadership of Sonja Peterson, Winterville UMC has participated in Project Linus for over 3 years.  As completed blankets are turned in, Sonja prepares them with the Project Linus labels and delivers them to our drop-off point.

Not only does Sonja deliver blanket for Project Linus, but she makes and gives them to our own children who are baptised.  Additionally, Sonja makes and delivers lap blankets to the seniors at the Winterville Assisted Living Home.

New, handmade, washable blankets are to be given as gifts to seriously ill and traumatized children, ages 0-18. It is Project Linus’ policy to accept blankets of all sizes, depending on local chapter needs. All blanket styles are welcome, including quilts, tied comforters, fleece blankets, crocheted or knitted afghans, and receiving blankets in child-friendly colors. Boys blankets are especially needed. Always remember that blankets must be homemade, washable, free of pins, and come from smoke-free environments due to allergy reasons.

If you have any questions about the Project Linus program, or would like to donate a blanket, please contact Sonja at the email address listed above.  Blankets may also be dropped off at the church office.
